(02)What carpet is

A fiber, a construction, and the way a room feels underfoot.

Pick the fiber for the life the room has. The construction handles the look.

Carpet comes in three main fibers on our racks. Nylon handles traffic and bounces back. Polyester feels softer at a friendlier price. Wool is the one that gets better with age, if the budget is there.

Construction is the other half of the decision. Plush is formal and dense. Textured hides footprints in a family room. Berber and loop carpets wear well on stairs and in offices. Patterns go in the rooms where you want the eye to land on the floor.

We carry twenty-three brands. Most dealers carry six or eight. Masland, Mohawk, Shaw, Dreamweaver, Stanton, Couristan, and the rest. The right carpet for your room is almost always somewhere in that list.

  • Nylon for high traffic
  • Polyester for softness at price
  • Wool when it really matters
  • Plush, textured, loop, patterned
  • Twenty-three brands stocked
  • Padding upgraded over standard, premium options available

(04)Installation

The small things that make carpet last ten years instead of five.

The installer, the padding, and the stretch. Three decisions that separate carpet you love from carpet you replace early.

  1. 01
    Crew

Our install crews have been with us for decades.

    • Know which seams matter and how to hide them
    • Run the grain the right way down a hallway
    • Power-stretched so nothing ripples in January
  2. 02
    Padding

Standard padding exceeds the manufacturer spec, included on every install.

    • Thicker, denser padding extends the carpet life
    • Cuts sound transmission between floors
    • Premium pad options available for upgrade

    We decline downgrade requests.

  3. 03
    Install day

Pull old carpet, prep the subfloor, cut and stretch the new.

    • You move the breakables before we arrive
    • Pull old carpet, inspect subfloor, new tackless strips
    • Cut, seam, power-stretch, tuck, and vacuum

I had luxury vinyl planking installed in my entire home and so glad I did. Mike was so helpful when I was trying to choose a color and brand. The men who did the installation really knew what they were doing and cleaned up before they left.

(07)FAQ

Frequently asked questions about carpet installation.

Installation time varies by job depending on the square footage, the type of flooring being installed, and whether existing flooring needs to be removed first. After we see the space and understand the full scope of work, we can provide a more accurate timeline.

Low-pile or mid-pile synthetic with a tight, structured weave. Berbers and patterned loops wear well on stairs because the face fiber doesn’t crush under repeated foot traffic. If you want the look of wool on stairs, a solution-dyed nylon with a wool-like finish gives you 80% of the softness at a fraction of the wear rate.

Yes. Every install includes padding, and the standard padding exceeds the manufacturer’s recommended spec on the carpet you chose. Thicker and denser padding extends the life of the carpet, improves feel, and cuts down on sound transmission. If you want to upgrade further, we stock premium pads at an added cost.

Solution-dyed nylon with built-in stain protection. The color goes all the way through the fiber so it doesn’t bleach out with enzymatic cleaners. Shaw Anso, Mohawk SmartStrand, and Dreamweaver PureColor are three lines we stock that handle pets well.

Yes. We install with tackless strips and padding. Common in bedrooms where hardwood is original and the owner wants warmth and quiet. When you remove the carpet later the hardwood can be refinished.

Yes. We are licensed in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, and our install crews work throughout Montgomery County every day, including Olney, Potomac, Bethesda, Rockville, Silver Spring, Chevy Chase, Damascus, Clarksburg, and Gaithersburg. Olney and Potomac showrooms are the retail points of contact; installs happen at your home.

Every carpet we sell carries the manufacturer warranty on the product itself. We back the installation separately. If a seam opens, a stretch relaxes, or anything about how we installed it isn't right in the first year, we come back and fix it.

Our crew arrives on time. You move the breakables. We pull up the old carpet, inspect and clean the subfloor, install new tackless strips and padding, then cut, seam, and power-stretch the new carpet. We vacuum before leaving.

It depends on the room and how you live. Carpet wins in bedrooms, basements, and stairs where quiet and softness matter. Hardwood wins in high-traffic spaces like hallways and living rooms where durability and cleaning speed matter more. Lots of homes run both: hardwood on the main floor and stairs, carpet in the bedrooms upstairs. If you have pets or kids, the calculus shifts toward solution-dyed carpet in bedrooms and rigid-core LVP in the spots hardwood would otherwise go.

With decent padding and normal traffic, most quality carpet lasts 10 to 15 years. Premium wool and high-density nylon can go 20 years. The fiber matters most, then the padding underneath it. Thin pad shortens carpet life more than anything else. Regular vacuuming and a professional cleaning every 12 to 18 months gets you to the top of that range.

The smell is mostly from the carpet backing and adhesives off-gassing after installation. It fades within a few days with normal air circulation. Open windows for the first 48 hours, run ceiling fans, and air the house out. Low-VOC options are available if someone in the home is sensitive. The smell is not harmful, but some people prefer to vacuum and air the room before letting a sensitive person back in.

The best way to pick carpet is to stand on it. Our Olney showroom is open seven days a week and has the full product line. Potomac is the same layout, closer to Bethesda.
