(03)The argument

Big-box stores sell Miele, then tell you to buy a new one.

If your Miele stopped working, it’s probably not dead. Bring it in.

Miele designs and builds vacuums to a twenty-year operating life. That’s the specification the Miele factory in Germany targets for motor hours, seal durability, and chassis stress tolerance. We’ve serviced Miele vacuums purchased in the late 1990s that are still in daily use by their original owners.

Miele’s suction is consistent even with a full bag because of the Vortex motor design. HEPA filtration options trap particles down to 0.3 microns, which matters for households with allergies or pets. Every part is serviceable, which is why we stock parts and can repair almost any fault on the bench.

Steve made it easy to borrow samples and select a carpet. The installers were pros at installation and at cleaning up. I also bought a vacuum cleaner and there was no attempt to upsell. It couldn't have been more efficient or professional.

Floors were cracking bad. We spoke with JP, and sure glad we did. He gave an honest opinion and helped us pick out the right kind of flooring. Crew came in and was very efficient. The whole bottom level of the house was replaced in two days.

Reliable, trustworthy, helpful. Just words but Carpet and Vacuum Expo really bring them to life. Without even meeting in person, I could not be happier that we chose them to update our floors to beautiful composite wood flooring.

I had luxury vinyl planking installed in my entire home and so glad I did. Mike was so helpful when I was trying to choose a color and brand. The men who did the installation really knew what they were doing and cleaned up before they left.

I decided to go out of state to Carpet and Vacuum Expo in Potomac and my experience was fantastic. The installers did a great job, and the carpet looked even better than I could have imagined.

(07)FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Miele.

Yes. Carpet & Vacuum Expo is an authorized Miele dealer and an authorized Miele service center. Every vacuum we sell comes with Miele’s full manufacturer warranty. Every repair is done with genuine Miele parts.

Most repairs complete within a week of drop-off. Bench diagnosis is usually fifteen minutes; we then order any needed parts and schedule the repair. Common issues (belts, brushes, hose seals) often finish same-week.

Yes. Genuine Miele HyClean bags, HEPA filters, turbo brushes, parquet heads, and hose replacements. Both showrooms stock the common types; we special-order anything unusual.

No. We focus on Miele exclusively because it lets us turn repairs around quickly. For other brands we’ll refer you to a reputable shop that handles them.

With routine bag and filter changes, a Miele canister typically runs for fifteen to twenty years of normal residential use. Mieles serviced by an authorized shop can go longer. The weak point on most vacuums is the motor; Miele motors are rated for around 750 hours of operation, which translates to decades for most households. Bags and filters are consumable and need to be changed on schedule.

Reduced suction that doesn’t improve after a bag change usually means a clogged filter or a blocked hose. Unusual motor noise (grinding, whining, or inconsistent volume) means the motor or brush bearings are due for attention. A burning smell is a sign to stop using it and bring it in. Most issues on a Miele are quick to diagnose and repairable rather than requiring replacement.

HEPA filters on canister vacuums generally last about a year of normal use, or roughly every fifty bag changes, whichever comes first. Pre-motor filters should be changed every six months in homes with pets or heavy dust. Running a vacuum with a clogged filter strains the motor and shortens the machine’s life more than almost any other factor.

For air quality, yes. Bagged vacuums seal dust and allergens in the bag and release almost nothing when emptied. Bagless vacuums dump collected dust back into the air when the canister opens, which is a problem in homes with allergies or asthma. Bagless skips the recurring bag purchase. Bagged wins on cleanliness and ease of use.
