(02)Local

One Silver Spring address can call for a very different floor than the next.

A quieter carpet in a bedroom, refinished wood in a main living area, or waterproof plank downstairs. The right answer starts with the room.

Silver Spring includes downtown apartments and condos, townhouses, duplexes, and established single-family neighborhoods. That range changes the flooring decision. In a multifamily building, the product must work with the existing subfloor, finished floor height, sound requirements, and the building's installation rules. In a detached home or townhouse, the better value may be refinishing the wood that is already there, fitting a runner to the stairs, or choosing a durable floor for a lower level.

We do not choose from the city name alone. An in-home measure lets us inspect the subfloor, transitions, stairs, moisture exposure, and the way the room is used. That is how we narrow the choice between solid or engineered hardwood, refinishing, carpet, LVP, laminate, and a custom rug rather than forcing one product into every Silver Spring project.

Carpet & Vacuum Expo has served Montgomery County since 1991. Silver Spring customers can compare the same flooring lines at our Olney or Potomac showroom, take samples home, and schedule measurement and installation at the property. Olney is the shorter drive for many Silver Spring addresses, while either showroom can help you start the project.

  • Hardwood installation and existing-floor refinishing
  • Carpet for bedrooms, stairs, and lower levels
  • Waterproof LVP for kitchens, entries, and basements
  • Laminate for dry, high-traffic rooms
  • Custom area rugs and stair runners
  • Samples from either showroom, measurement at your home

(03)What we install in Silver Spring

The same full flooring range available across Montgomery County, with the material chosen for your room, subfloor, building, and long-term plans.

Wide-plank natural wood flooring in a completed room.
(01)Hardwood

Solid and engineered hardwood.

Choose solid hardwood for suitable above-grade rooms or engineered hardwood when the construction and subfloor call for more dimensional stability. We help compare plank width, species, finish, and installation method in the light of your own Silver Spring home.

Solid and engineered options
Traditional and wide-plank formats
Factory-finished and site-finished choices
Measured for transitions and adjoining rooms
Oak hardwood after sanding and refinishing.
(02)Hardwood Refinishing

Refinish the wood worth keeping.

Existing hardwood does not always need to be replaced. When the boards have enough usable material and the floor is structurally sound, sanding and refinishing can restore the surface, change the color, and preserve the floor already fitted to the home.

Existing-floor assessment before replacement
Sand, stain, and finish in place
Natural, dark, and custom color directions
Single-room and whole-home scopes
Carpet runner installed on a residential staircase.
(03)Carpet

Carpet installation for bedrooms, stairs, and living spaces.

Carpet adds softness and sound control where hard flooring is not the best fit. Compare fiber, texture, pattern, padding, and durability for a Silver Spring bedroom, staircase, family room, or lower level, then see the sample in the room before ordering.

Plush, textured, patterned, and commercial options
Padding selected for comfort and performance
Pet- and family-conscious fiber choices
Measured around stairs, closets, and transitions

(04)Luxury Vinyl (LVP)

Waterproof plank for rooms that work hard.

Luxury vinyl plank is a practical choice for kitchens, entries, lower levels, and busy households. We compare wear layers, core construction, plank visuals, and the condition of the floor underneath before recommending a product or installation method.

Waterproof choices across the lines we carry
Wood-look formats in varied widths and tones
Options for suitable concrete and wood subfloors
Easy-care surfaces for active rooms
Wide-plank oak-look laminate flooring in a bright hallway.
(05)Laminate

Durable laminate for dry rooms.

Modern laminate pairs a hard wear surface with detailed wood visuals. It can be a strong fit for dry bedrooms, halls, offices, and living areas where scratch resistance matters. We steer wet or moisture-prone rooms toward a more appropriate material.

Scratch-resistant wear surfaces
High-resolution wood looks
Floating click-lock options

Bound edge detail on a custom carpet runner.
(06)Area Rugs & Runners

Custom rugs and fitted stair runners.

Use broadloom as the starting material for a rug sized to the room or a runner fitted to the staircase. Choose the carpet, edge treatment, width, and placement together so the finished piece works with the surrounding hardwood and furniture.

Custom room sizes and stair widths
Straight and turning staircase layouts
Wool, synthetic, and blended fibers

Floors were cracking bad. We spoke with JP, and sure glad we did. He gave an honest opinion and helped us pick out the right kind of flooring. Crew came in and was very efficient. The whole bottom level of the house was replaced in two days.

Reliable, trustworthy, helpful. Just words but Carpet and Vacuum Expo really bring them to life. Without even meeting in person, I could not be happier that we chose them to update our floors to beautiful composite wood flooring.

Can't recommend Carpet & Vacuum Expo highly enough. Refinished the wood floors throughout our house, taking darkly-stained wood back down to a natural finish. Also replaced carpeted portions of the house at a reasonable price.

It took me over a year to decide which products to use to replace the squeaking hardwood floors in our almost 60 year old home. Steve was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and accommodating. Our floors are now not only beautiful, but quiet.

(05)FAQ

Frequently asked questions about flooring in Silver Spring.

Yes. Carpet & Vacuum Expo serves Silver Spring from its Olney and Potomac showrooms. You can compare samples in either showroom, take them home, and schedule an in-home measure before installation. The installation happens at your Silver Spring property; there is no separate Silver Spring showroom.

Olney is the shorter drive for many Silver Spring addresses, while Silver Spring covers a broad area and either showroom can help. Both Olney and Potomac carry the flooring lines we install. Choose the showroom that fits your route, or schedule a measure and tell us where the project is located.

Often, yes. The first step is checking the floor in person. We look at the board thickness, condition, movement, prior sanding, damaged areas, and the transition into adjoining rooms. If the floor is a good candidate, refinishing can preserve it. If it is not, we explain the installation alternatives.

Start with the building's written rules. Ask about approved materials, sound-control ratings, underlayment, work hours, elevator reservations, loading access, debris removal, and required contractor documents. We then measure the unit and compare products that fit both the room and the building requirements.

The answer depends on moisture, the slab or subfloor, room use, and the feel you want. Waterproof LVP is a common option where moisture exposure is a concern. Carpet can make a dry family room warmer and quieter. We inspect the space before recommending either one, and we do not cover an active moisture problem with a new floor.

You can take samples from either showroom and see them in your own daylight, next to cabinets, paint, furniture, and adjoining floors. During the in-home measure, we can use those samples to confirm color, product direction, transitions, and the installation scope.

Timing depends on the product, square footage, product availability, subfloor work, removal, stairs, building access, and the number of rooms. After the measure and product selection, we provide a project-specific estimate and schedule rather than promising one timeline for every job.
